Donatos and Community Workers

Today we took a field trip to Donato's Pizza. The kids had an absolute blast while we were there. They learned all about making pizzas and then they made their own! It is an exact science how Donato's pizzas are made and all 22 of my kids now know the secret! We are very thankful that Donato's let us come and do this. What a cool thing for the kids to do.
Jim in the walk in fridge showing the kids the cheese.
And the pepperoni.
And the crust. This time he was in the freezer. It was freezing:)

Now it's time to make a pizza.

First, start with the sauce on the crust. Then add some cheese.
Next, we put pepperoni on the pizzas.

One by one!

Into the oven...

And Voila..It's done! And yum yum yum:)

Some kids read while the others made pizzas and then they switched.
This afternoon, we had a few speakers come in to our class and talk to the kids about what they do in the community. Major Carper came in a talked to the kids about his job as a member of the Army National Guard. We looked at Google Earth and found exactly where he was stationed at in Kuwait. The kids had tons of questions for him. He also stressed the importance of the Pledge of Allegiance. Some kids had no clue as to why we actually say the pledge every morning.

After that, Joni & Lori from the Logan County Humane Society came to talk to us about working out there. They also shared with us tips on how to avoid being bitten by a dog. It was very helpful. They brought in Jackie, a Jack Russel mix, that Joni has adopted from there. I have also recently adopted a puppy from there. If you are ever bored and not sure what to do, take the kids to the Humane society and they can walk the dogs or play with the cats in the cat room. It might be more convenient for those who can't have pets at home!

Last, we had Bill Tipple from WPKO/WBLL come and talk the kids about his job in the community. He lets us know the news. He talked with the kids about his sources for the news and how he gets them. He then interviewed two students and the class listened to the playback. It was very cute!
