This week we've been learning about maps and the directions on a map. Here are some photos of the kids doing their map skill game. They did a really great job on it!

We've also been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Here is a photo of the kids holding up some 2D shapes they made with straws and twist ties. Today we searched the room for some 3D shapes. We found many cylinders, spheres, rectangular prisms, and cubes. See if you can find some at your house!

We have also begun doing part 2 of the daily 5. We are now reading with a partner and are doing it for 5 minutes. We've also built up our stamina to do 7 minutes of read to self time. I am very proud of how well they are doing.
We have begun focusing more attention to our fluency goal of 56 words in one minute. I tell them 57, so they try harder! I will put some websites on the side that you can check out and print your own fluency passage. Time them to see how many correct words they can read in one minute. If it is over 70, not much practice is needed! Unless you want to push them toward the end of second grade goal, which is 97!!!!
