Jason showing us some ham!
We then walked from there to the City building. On our way we cut through the church parking lot to see our local construction company, Thomas & Marker, demolishing an area of the church. One student said, "Is that a real live construction worker!" I had to laugh, because I live with one!Once we go to the city building, we were greeted by Mayor Brannon. He talked to us about his job. We then went to the Fire Department and were guided by Fire Fighter Blake. He showed us many things. From tools to trucks to oxygen tanks. He also showed us their sleeping, eating, work out, and relaxing areas. The kids were pretty impressed that they had a smart board also! We did not get to go down the poles this year, but we did get to go through a truck and I got to choose one student to dress up in their gear. It was great! They told him he had one minute to put on all of the stuff. It took more than one minute to put his boots/pants on.

We then went back upstairs and the Service Safety Director, Mr. Holycross, took us on a tour of the rest of the city building, including the Police Department. We got to meet the lady who answers the 911 calls!
The 911 dispatcher.
Then we took a break and ate lunch. By this point, we were starving! After lunch, we walked to the Post Office and they showed us how they process the mail. If you've never been in the post office, it's pretty neat. The system is awesome. And they are sooo fast! I used to deliver mail part time before I became a teacher. It was great exercise. I just didn't like being chased by dogs!
Sorting packages.
Finally, we walked back to school and were treated with a performance by the Phoenix Theater Group. They put on a puppet show of Hansel & Gretel. All in all, it was a very tiring day! We walked close to 3 miles! I'm sure everyone will sleep great tonight!
